Snack Pak 4 kids gearing up to help feed children this summer
Snack Pak 4 Kids is an organization that I first came in contact with about three years ago when I did a live shot at their warehouse for the Daytime @ Nine show. I watched as over a hundred volunteers loaded healthy snacks into plastic bags that would later be delivered to schools around the city. Leslie Kingman, volunteer executive director of the organization in San Antonio explained that in Bexar County alone, over 120,000 children are considered to be food insecure. Of those, it is estimated that 10-20% actually deal with chronic hunger. Although Federal Nutrition programs provide meals for students during the school week, weekends can be especially challenging for these children.
Leslie said that Snack Pak 4 Kids was created to provide weekend food supplements to students who are identified by their teachers, creating food SECURITY for them over the weekend. With the support of partners, donors and volunteers of all ages, Snack Pak 4 Kids San Antonio works hard to be a learning enhancement tool for these kids, solving their weekend hunger issue so they can learn during the school week. Check out the entire live stream below for what the program is all about and how you might want to get involved.
