Danny Green posts sweet farewell to San Antonio: "You will ALWAYS be a big part of me"

SBG San Antonio

While most of San Antonio expected to see Kawhi Leonard traded to another NBA team, fans were likely shocked that Danny Green was part of the package deal.

Just minutes after the news became official, Green posted a touching farewell on his Instagram page.

SAN ANTONIO....Can't express the LOVE I have for you, the city, the fans & the organization. I want to thank you all for allowing me to be a part of something AMAZING for so many years. I have many great memories that I will take with me. Through the ups and downs you’ve always made me feel SPECIAL. I want to personally thank Pop and RC for being the first to believe in me and give me the opportunity. Thank you to my TEAMMATES for always encouraging me and being there for me (going to miss you guys the most)..so many battles. Thank you to the COMMUNITY for accepting me and allowing me to feel at HOME...all of you will ALWAYS be a big part of me and will ALWAYS be FAMILY! LOVE YOU ALL! Looking forward to my next chapter in TORONTO!

Of course, the Twitterverse did not take the news well.

"Nooooooo! I love Danny Green," tweeted journalist Emily Baucum. "Why does he have to suffer too??"

"Danny Green sittin around like "damn, man. what did i do?" tweeted podcast host Chris Vernon.

Amid the crying face emojis, tweets and comments offered respect to the Spurs shooting guard.

"I still thank you Danny Green. 2013 finals performance was a legendary one that won’t soon be forgotten. Big help in 2014 playoffs as well," tweeted user @T_Sharp4.
