REPORT: Sixers targeting Spurs' Buford for next GM
It seems the Sixers are not just eyeing San Antonio Spurs' Kawhi Leonard.
According to a report from Philadelphia's The Inquirer's Keith Pompey, his sources are saying the Sixers are looking at Spurs' General Manager R.C. Buford as the team's next GM.
Former Cavaliers general manager David Griffin was once mentioned as the leading candidate for the job. Spurs general manager R.C. Buford has been mentioned as a possible target, according to sources. However, the Sixers would have a tough time prying him away from San Antonio.
The Sixers are a team on the rise with young talent such as Ben Simmons, and Joel Embiid and forging a team around the duo could prove inviting for Buford. Not to mention a reunion with former Spurs Assistant Coach Brett Brown. However, as the report states, getting him to leave the Spurs would be a chore.
With San Antonio he has made himself into one of the NBA's best executives and his track record speaks for itself.
Buford was named the Spurs' GM in 2002 and is a 2-time NBA Executive of the Year Award winner.
