Now that the preseason is over, it is time for the San Antonio Spurs to trim down the roster before Monday and tipoff of the 2016-17 season.
And unfortunately, Patricio Garino will not be a part of the team roster.
Speaking with TYCSports.com after last night's Spurs' win over the Rockets, Garino stated head coach Gregg Popovich informed him he was waived.
"We just talked to Pop. I'm waived from the team," he stated[.]
However, Garino said he isn't closing the door at possibly joining the D-League, other NBA offers or perhaps going overseas.
"D-League, I must assess the next steps, if I stay here or if another offer comes in from the NBA, "said [Garino]. Who knows, he must now wait to see if any interest appears in the best league in the world or he finds a place in Europe. " I do not close any doors," he said.
Patricio averaged 3.7 points in 11 minutes for the Spurs in the preseason and is grateful for the opportunity for his time with San Antonio.
"It's a dream come true, even though things did not continue as one wishes". "I realized that everything is possible and that with a little work and effort, why not one day return," he added. "After seeing how the system is here, what life is, how they handle fell in love with this. It is something addictive and will work to stay here. That's my dream," he said.
Now with Garino, and reports of Ryan Arcidiacano being waived, the roster still needs trimming. Bryn Forbes, Davis Bertans, Nicolas Laprovittola, Joel Anthony and Livio Jean-Charles are likely the pool of players who will know their fate with the Spurs soon enough.
