Miami Heat believe LeBron James checked out of NBA Finals series vs. Spurs

Miami Heat small forward LeBron James (6) reacts after being fouled during the second half in Game 7 of the NBA basketball championship against the San Antonio Spurs, Thursday, June 20, 2013, in Miami.

The San Antonio Spurs have won five NBA championships since 1999. Their last championship was in 2014 when the Spurs defeated LeBron James and the Miami Heat four games to one.

But in that series, did then Miami Heat player - LeBron James - check out of the series?

According to ESPN's Dan LeBatard, the Heat believe James didn’t give it his in the series and was already one foot out the door.

Final season with the Heat, LeBron James, the Heat organization believed, knew he was leaving and checked out on the Finals. It looked like he was trying. The stat sheet looked like he was trying. But the Miami Heat believed that he checked out and was no longer trying.

After suffering a devastating loss the year before in the finals, the Spurs came out hot in this series and ended up taking the series with each win coming by double-digits.

James was dominating during the entire series despite losing almost every game. His final averages were 28.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.

With numbers like this and James a huge competitor, is it really likely he would give up like this?

Taking a look back at his teammates averages, it’s more likely to see Dwayne Wade or Chris Bosh be the ones to not show up versus the Spurs. Wade was only able to add 15.2 points per game while Bosh had 14.

James led the Heat in every stat category during this NBA Finals. And although it was tough to see his team lose this bad, it is very unlikely to say he “checked out” of this series.

What do you think Spurs fans? Did James give up on his team and let the Spurs take home their 5th championship? Let me know by tweeting me at @TylerClerkin_5.
