Alamo Heights falls to Northwest in state semifinals

SBG San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO - Senior Brandon Johnson scored a game-high 20 points and Evan Carcanagues added 12 points and seven rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Alamo Heights fell to No. 2 Northwest 65-54 loss in in the UIL Class 5A State Seminfials on Thursday night.

The Mules (32-7) had plenty of support as over 10, 000 fans packed into the Alamodome to cheer on the team from Alamo Heights, which was making its first state tournament appearance since 2012.

But the Texans (34-5) were too much for Alamo Heights, as the No. 2 ranked squad outrebounded the Mules 37-26 and had four players in double figures, led by junior Sammie Freeman with 13 points and 17 rebounds.

Northwest advances to the championship game and will play No. 4 Port Arthur Memorial at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Alamodome.
