Las Vegas police are trying to identify passenger in vehicle that killed retired police chief on bike

LAS VEGAS (TND) — Authorities are looking for the passenger who filmed and was recorded laughing while the driver reportedly struck a bicyclist last month.

Las Vegas Metropolitan police detectives are trying to identify the passenger who was in the vehicle that struck retired police chief, Andreas Probst.

Probst died from injuries he suffered after he was "intentionally" struck by a vehicle driven by a teen, according to police.

Footage of the incident circulated on social media over the weekend, sparking outrage.

A news obituary published on reviewjournal.com on August 18 was criticized.

The headline described the deadly hit-and-run as a "bike crash" rather than an intentional killing as police described.

In the video, two individuals are heard laughing as they approach a bicyclist on the roadway.

"Ready?" one of the individuals says. "Hit his [expletive]," the other individual says.

The vehicle then rams into the bicyclist, ejecting him from the bike.

The bicyclist is seen flying over the top of the vehicle car as the vehicle flees the scene.

The National Desk reached out to LVMP to confirm if the viral footage is the same video detectives saw connecting the driver to Probst's death. LVMP did not respond to the question, but they did state they are actively working to identify the passenger in the car.

Police said the 17-year-old driver was arrested and booked into the Clark County Juvenile Hall on charges related to hit-and run.

On Monday, the Clark County District Attorney's Office told KSNV they are seeking adult certification on the teen driver.
