TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - Hearts were pounding and tears were flowing in Florida Thursday, as the life of tiny, terrified dog hung in the balance.

While Andrea Cassidy was away at school, her dog, named Tobey, was out and about with his dog walker in Tampa. As they approached Bayshore Boulevard, the Dacshund craved adventure, bolting to the Bay and jumping in the water.

Seconds later, Tobey was terrified. The bone-chilling temps hit his tiny body and he panicked.

He worked his way into a drainage pipe which connected to a sewer, and he wouldn't follow the voices of officers trying to rescue him.

That's when his human mom went down into the sewer and lured him to safety.

Of course, she says she's grateful for the Tampa police officers who did most of the work, and even sent a team of divers into the drainage pipe.
