UPDATE (9:00 P.M. 12/4) EDINBURG, Texas - Edinburg CISD has announced it has removed Edinburg High School from the state playoffs.
"The district has decided to remove the Edinburg High School football team from the playoffs after an unexpected incident involving a student that occurred during a football game on December 3, 2020. We extend a sincere apology to the referee and his family. On behalf of the Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees and administration, we apologize to the athletes, staff, and our school community."
The district added it will take disciplinary action after an investigation.
UIL also commented, saying, "The conduct witnessed in the Edinburg, PSJA game in no way represents the values taught through interscholastic activities including high school football,” said Dr. Charles Breithaupt, executive director of the UIL. “Respect, responsibility, fairness and concern for others are vital components of educational competition. Strong and appropriate measures are being taken by the school district and we hope that healing can come from this teachable moment.”

EDINBURG, Texas - A high school football player is facing serious repercussions after body slamming a ref during a Friday night game.
Edinburg High School's Emmanuel Duron had just been penalized and ejected from the game. The district's live video stream caught it on camera.
Just seconds after the ejection, Duron can be seen chasing after the referee and body slamming him. It appears the referee never saw him coming.
The referee was down on the turf for quite some time and is reportedly under evaluation for a concussion.
