Uvalde police officer terminated following arrest on child sex assault charges

A police officer was arrested by Texas Rangers on allegations of sexual assault of a child, according to the Uvalde Police Department.
The agency reported that Officer Laurance Martinez was immediately terminated following his arrest on Thursday.
Allegations against Martinez were first reported by the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District on Tuesday. UCISD then reported the situation to the police department, which then asked the Texas Rangers to take over the investigation.
Details of the allegations were not released.
