SAN ANTONIO - Case numbers for Covid-19 are heading in the right direction in Bexar County. However, hospitalizations remain high and the hospital stress level remains severe.
As we enter the Fall season and experience cooler temperatures, local health experts say now is not the time to let your guard down. Some see signs of a surge in cases as the weather turns cooler.
Dr. Robert Leverence, Chief Medical Officer for UT Health San Antonio Physicians Practice, says we could see one more significant rise in cases before the end of the pandemic. He says there are two reasons for a possible surge: kids being back in school and the late start to the recent summer surge.
So what should we do? Dr. Leverence says the best thing everyone can do is get vaccinated. The flu season will also impact the winter surge, especially with students back into the classrooms.
