Two arrested for sex trafficking teen from Honduras
COMAL COUNTY- Two people in Comal County are behind bars for buying and selling a 15 year old girl. The teen was coming here from Honduras and was sold by her own aunt.
Gloria Romero Perez called the Comal County sheriff's office in April saying her 15 year old niece had runaway. Deputies found the girl at the home of Julio Jimenez-Ramirez in Fischer, arrested him, and were about to take the girl back to her aunt.
"And then the child said, well no, wait, my aunt sold me to him. At which point she showed some receipts with the Aunt's name on it and a hand written contract,” said Comal County Sheriff’s Detective Anthony Moreno.
That contract stated that Jimenez-Ramirez would reimburse Romero-Perez the $6,000 she paid to bring the teen here from Honduras. Thousands of unaccompanied minors have made their way into the U.S. to escape violence in their home countries, in hopes of reuniting with a relative already in the states. News 4 San Antonio broke the story that unfortunately some of these children were not placed in a safe environment.
"It is very tragic and is unfortunate that someone would do that to their own family member,” said Detective Moreno.
The teen recently gave birth to Jimenez-Ramirez's child. And both the teen and the baby are now in CPS custody. Romero Perez and Jimenez-Ramirez are facing felony charges for trafficking a child and are being held at the Comal County jail on a $500,000 bond and an immigration hold.
