SAN ANTONIO (WOAI/KABB) — A man is dead and a young girl is in the hospital clinging to life after a major Southeast Side accident.

Police say the man, 80, was crossing Rigsby near Comanche Park around 5:30 p.m. when a silver car with four people inside slammed into him.

The man was later pronounced dead at the scene when officers arrived. Three of the four people in the silver car, which ended up bursting into flames, were injured.

Among those injured included the 2-year-old girl, who police say wasn’t in a car seat and is clinging to life.

“Unfortunately, when you put children in just a normal car seat when they’re supposed to be in a child restraint or a booster seat, at an impact, that seatbelt can cause internal injury and damage to the small children,” Sgt. Tom Alonzo with the SAPD said.

The other two suffered minor injuries. However, police are searching for someone who may have helped the toddler.

The sergeant told us someone may have stopped by the accident and ripped the young girl out of the burning car before leaving.
