Texas ranked as the state with the most female entrepreneurs
Women are making huge contributions to the country’s economy, and right now the United States is home to over 11 million female-owned businesses.
According to a report by fitsmallbusiness.com, Texas is the state with the most, with more than 20 percent of its businesses being owned by females. And over the last nine years, the number of female-owned businesses has grown five times faster than the national average.
El Pasoan Erika Williams opened up her own boutique called On Next Sunday just last year and feels proud to be one of the many woman entrepreneurs in El Paso.
“It motivates me to work harder and chase more of my dreams because other women are doing it as well,” said Williams.
Williams, who is an El Paso native, says a lot of the time she hears negative things about the Borderland.
“People have this idea of El Paso that they want to get out and that they want to leave because there is nothing to do here,” said Williams.
But she hopes that businesses like hers, will convince people to stay.
“People come and tell me thank you so much for opening up something like this on this side of town, because no one ever does anything on the East side, it’s a sense of pride, it’s really cool to me to be a part of El Paso’s growth,” said Williams.
