Texas military heads to Rio Grande Valley to rescue residents stranded by floodwaters
WESLACO, Texas -- The Texas Military visited Weslaco Thursday morning to assist with high water rescues.
The Rio Grande Valley was hit heavy rain starting on Tuesday, hitting the Lower Valley the hardest. Rain continued to move to the Upper Valley Wednesday and Thursday, flooding numerous neighborhoods and leaving many stranded.
Many residents in Weslaco were stuck in their homes, which is why the Texas Military was called in to assist. The city of McAllen also suffered from major flooding and was put under a local state of emergency. Additionally, Hidalgo County also issued a proclamation declaring a local state of disaster as a result of damages from the storms.
It's unknown exactly how many people have been rescued so far.
