KERRVILLE, Texas - The man who was shot and killed by Kerrville Police after allegedly threatening an officer with a knife has been identified.
The suspect was identified as 17-year-old Tommy Luke Hranicky.
The incident happened just after 3:30 p.m. on the 900 block of Sidney Baker Street near Myrta Street.
Police said they responded to a man waving a knife, who they said advanced on the officer once police made contact with him. The officer retreated and gave repeated verbal commands for Hranicky to stop and drop the knife. Hranicky continued to advance at which time the officer was forced to fire his weapon to protect himself.
Hranicky was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This is a tragic incident that affects the whole community," said Kerrville Police Chief David Knight. "Our thoughts are with the officer, the family of the deceased, and all who have been impacted by this event.”
The Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Ranger and the Kerrville Police Department are handling the investigation.
