Teen has hands blown off after firework explodes during illegal racing event on East Side

SAN ANTONIO (WOAI/KABB) - Two teenagers were severely injured as hundreds of street racers took over an East Side parking lot.

The incident started around 10:30 p.m. Sunday at the Eisenhauer Marketplace parking lot on Eisenhauer Road and Holbrook Road.

San Antonio Police said they saw street racers doing doughnuts and shooting off fireworks.

At one point, a teenager was holding a mortar shell in his hand and another person was lighting it when it blew up in his hand, blowing both hands completely off.

Another teenager was hit by a mortar that was thrown in his direction, it blew his fingertips off and did damage to his eyes, possibly causing him vision loss.

Both victims were taken to the hospital.

No arrests were made.
