Study: One-fourth of San Antonians severely cost-burdened by housing
SAN ANTONIO - Almost one-quarter of renters in San Antonio have a "severe cost burden" according to a report conducted by Harvard University.
These people are classified as severely cost burdened because they spend more than 50 percent of their income on housing. In total, almost half of San Antonio renters (45%) are classified as cost burdened, because they spend more than 30 percent of their money on housing.
But the study reports San Antonio has the fourth-lowest rent among the 25 largest cities in the country, with a median monthly rent at $951.
As a whole, the country is seeing record shortages of affordable housing for middle and working class Americans.
