SAN ANTONIO -- We are learning more about the sudden and tragic death of a mother and elementary school librarian.
Dawn Mulder went to get an allergy shot last week and then suddenly died. It's unclear exactly what killed Dawn, and the medical examiner is conducting an autopsy. We spoke with local allergist Dr. Paul Ratner about how often something like this happens. He did not administer Dawn's shot.
"Any serious reaction to an allergy shot, but particularly death, is an extremely rare occurrence,” explained Dr. Ratner. “We can go several years without having a death. I've been in practice 32 years and have never heard of a death happening here in San Antonio."
Meanwhile, the Rolling Meadows Elementary school librarian is being remembered as a woman who loved her job and instilled the love of reading into thousands of children. She leaves behind her husband and four children.
There will be a visitation followed by her funeral service at Mission Park Funeral Chapel at Stone Oak this Saturday at noon. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, books be donated in her memory.
