SAPD: DWI driver loses tire, causes head-on crash

SAN ANTONIO - A major accident on the city's Northwest Side Saturday night has left three people in the hospital.

The accident happened just before 10 p.m. on Loop 410 near Ingram Road.

Police said a man, who had been drinking, stole his grandfather's minivan and had an accident at Callaghan Road where he lost a tire. The man kept driving and ultimately ran a red light at Loop 410, hitting another car head on.

Emergency crews had to cut a mother and daughter out of the other vehicle. Both were transported to University Hospital with multiple injuries.

The driver was also taken to the hospital. He's facing multiple charges including DWI, stolen vehicle and intoxication assault charges.
