Popular San Antonio restaurant targeted by burglars
A popular San Antonio restaurant has been impacted by recent crime.
"People are bold these days,” said William Garner, known as “Mr.G.”
Mr. & Mrs. G’s Home Cooking and Pastries on San Antonio’s east side, has been a staple in the community for nearly 30 years.
"We've got regular customers, and people still finding out about this place,” said Garner.
The restaurant is known for their covered pork chops, mashed potatoes, and fresh pastries.
"They can call it soul food,” said Garner. “I call it home cooking. That covers it all."
However, recent crime has employees at the restaurant aggravated.
Surveillance video taken early Saturday morning shows 2 people driving away with Garner’s trailer. Garner estimates the trailer to be worth more than $2,000.
"They knew exactly what they wanted, because they didn't check anything else,” said Garner.
“My dad and my stepmom, they'd give anyone anything,” said Vicky Adams, Garner’s daughter. “Why come up here and take from them?”
However, the restaurant has been stolen from before. In September, Garner says their restaurant’s safe was broken into, the same day his wife died from cancer.
Much of the restaurant’s money, and his wife’s jewelry, was stolen.
"All of her good jewelry was in that safe,” said Adams. "I don't know how many thousands of dollars, but there were several thousands of dollars of her jewelry.”
Adams admits the past few months have been tough on their family, but they’re hopeful someone might have information involving these crimes.
"It's just not a very good idea to go around and take items from people who have worked to procure them,” said Garner.
