Police: Man set garage on fire, ran over son who attempted to save mom being assaulted

SAN ANTONIO (KABB/WOAI) - Officers have arrested a man accused of assaulting a woman and running over their son who attempted to save her.

It all started around 12:30 a.m. Sunday when officers were called to a home in the 100 block of Ricardo for reports of a family disturbance.

When officers arrived, Octaviano Santiago Cruz was seen repeatedly ramming the home with a truck. He was detained and officers began investigating what happened. Further investigation revealed that the man and his wife were inside a pickup truck when the man allegedly started beating her. Their 27-year-old son saw what happened and tried to pull her out of the truck. That's when the man ran him over. He then allegedly doused the garage in gasoline and set it on fire.

The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault-family-choking/strangulation. His son was transported to the hospital with multiple non-life-threatening injuries but was in stable condition. His mother was badly injured, but was treated at the scene.
