SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Police Department is investigating a shooting on the East Side that left a man dead.
Chief William McManus said officers were called to an apartment at the corner of East Commerce Street and Spriggsdale for a report of a shooting.
When police arrived, they found one man dead in the doorway of an apartment.
McManus said it appeared the shooter knocked on the door and shot the victim, described as a man in his 30s or 40s.
He added that investigators believe the victim knew the shooter and that it was not a random crime.
"I’m confident that we’ll soon know the identity of that person if we don’t know it already," said McManus. "So this is not a stranger running around just randomly knocking on doors.”
Some neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots.
"I knew it was outside but like it sounded like a big boom so it was probably inside the apartment also,” said Jaclyn Gomez, who also lives at the apartment complex.
Gomez just got back from dropping her kids off at school.
"I heard four gunshots and I was watching TV and after that I ran to my room because they were pretty loud and I didn’t want them to come to my apartment," said Gomez.
Some of the witnesses were taken by police for questioning. No arrests have been made.
