SAN ANTONIO – Police say they have revealed an attempted coverup surrounding the shooting death of a preschooler.
The shooting happened in the 1400 block of Avant Ave., on Memorial Day this year. Initially, police were told JaeLen Corley, 4, somehow got a gun during a family gathering and shot himself. His parents then tried to rush him to the hospital, but he later died.
New court records reveal an alleged coverup.
According to an affidavit, Patricia Johnson, 45, her son and his two friends are a part of this.
Court records say the investigation began with the officer noticing a ‘strong odor of marijuana.’ The officer then went inside the bedroom where the child was shot, noting there was a large amount of blood in the room, but no gun or shell casings to be found.

The bedroom belongs to Johnson’s son, allegedly.
Family who was there at the time was interviewed, but all had the same story and said Johnson’s son was never at the home.
However, police soon found a DVR with a wireless surveillance system. The system revealed video showing her son and two of his friends at the home at the time of the shooting.
The three are seen on video, according to court records, standing at the doorway as the child is taken out to be rushed to the hospital, meanwhile no one in the home called police.
After the child is taken out, the three, along with Johnson, are allegedly seen going into the crime scene.
Later, police say the four are seen taking guns, along with a backpack containing unknown items, out of the home and into a friend’s vehicle.
Johnson is now facing a charge of tampering with evidence.
