SAN ANTONIO — Two students were seriously injured when they were hit by a car in front of John Jay High School Thursday.
The accident happened around 12:45 p.m. on the 7600 block of Marbach Road. Police say two students were standing on the sidewalk waiting to cross Marbach Road, when a 2016 Toyota Corolla drifted up onto the sidewalk and struck both of them. The car then crashed into a crosswalk pole.
A police report states both students, 18-year-old Liliana Schouten-Hernandez and 18-year-old Cordell Boyd, suffered serious injuries and were transported by EMS to University Hospital.
The mother of the 41-year-old driver, who was a passenger in the vehicle, stated he appeared to have suffered a seizure right before the crash. However, police say an open container was found in the vehicle and officers smelled alcohol on the driver's breath.
The driver was also taken to University Hospital by EMS. Police said a "blood warrant" was being obtained, and the driver would be processed for two counts of intoxication assault.
Police are still investigating.
