The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) wrapped up the third day of its national convention Thursday with one of the hottest topics here in Texas.

LULAC has filed a lawsuit that is intended to stop the “Sanctuary Cities” law (aka SB4).

SB4 would ensure local law enforcement enforces immigration laws.

Here in San Antonio, leaders have also spoken out against it, saying it is racially biased and poorly thought out. It’s an opinion Police Chief William McManus made clear again today.

“The bill says that police cannot profile in order to enforce SB4. I mean, that is laughable because how else do you determine to ask someone for their papers other than their skin color? Or their accent? Or their lack of ability to speak the language? What else do you base it on?” asked Chief McManus.

Federal Judge Orlando Garcia is expected to have a decision on the lawsuit in early to mid-August. He must make a decision by September 1st when the law is expected to take effect.
