Man in his 60s struck, killed by police cruiser and second car, say police


A man in his 60s was killed when he was hit by a police cruiser and a second car on one of San Antonio's busiest roads.

According to police, an officer was responding to a robbery call shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday when the accident happened along San Pedro Avenue and El Monte.

Detectives say the officer was heading northbound on San Pedro, with lights and sirens on, when he struck a man in his 60s crossing the road. The impact of the crash knocked the victim into the southbound lanes, where he was hit by a second car.

The victim died at the scene. His identity has not been released.

The officer who hit the man was described as distraught by investigators. He has been placed on administrative duty while the accident is investigated.

The driver of the second car also stopped at the scene. No other information was provided by police.
