Pearl-like shopping, office development could pop up along I-10

SAN ANTONIO - City leaders are expected to approve zoning changes that will allow for a new massive retail and living district on the city's Northwest Side.

The development, which has been compared to the Pearl neighborhood located north of Downtown, would bring retail shops, office space and residential living to a large chunk of land off I-10 and UTSA Boulevard.

Before the project can move forward, city council members must approve zoning changes for the land.

Councilman Ron Nirenberg has previously said the development can lead to many opportunities for the city's Northwest Side, if managed properly.

He did acknowledge it would lead to more congestion along I-10, but seemed hopeful that the city would offer some traffic congestion remedies.

City Council will vote on the recommended zoning changes on Thursday.
