The off-duty deputy who was arrested Tuesday morning on DWI and drug charges following a crash along Loop 410 has resigned.

Heriberto Alejandro Rivera, 25, a 5-year veteran of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office announced his resignation Tuesday.

“This former employee has chosen to end his BCSO career rather than undergo an investigation," Sheriff Javier Salazar said. "I wish him my best with any issues he may have had that led to this incident.”

Rivera was arrested before 4 a.m. Tuesday morning after an officer witnessed him crashing into a concrete barrier along Loop 410 at Ingram Road. After searching Rivera's truck, police officers found evidence of hash oil.

Salazar ordered Rivera to submit to a drug test and was placed on unpaid administrative leave. Rivera resigned later Tuesday afternoon.
