More job cuts possible at local school district
SAN ANTONIO- On Tuesday, 60 teachers were notified that they may be let go within the San Antonio Independent School District.
“We are looking at taking about 60 names to the board on Monday that would be identified as terminated,” said Leslie Price with SAISD.
Price said in addition to teachers being let go, district officials will look at making cuts in campus administration and the district's central office.
Price said a loss of about 2,000 students this year and a projected 800 next year has the district facing a $31 million shortfall heading into next school year.
She said right now, the district is aligning its staff numbers with enrollment numbers to make up for its financial deficit.
“It won't impact the students and we have been trying to minimize as much as possible any impact it will have on staff,” Price said.
On Monday, the board will meet to discuss what's next with the district's budget.
“We are looking at other reductions as well other cost savings, other efficiencies. We will talk some about that Monday night and them some (more) as we go into June,” Price said.
