Suspected car thief shot while trying to steal security guard's vehicle, police say

SAN ANTONIO - A man is in critical condition after being shot while allegedly trying to steal a security guard's vehicle early Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened around 9 a.m. at the Dollar Tree on SE Military Drive near Roosevelt Avenue.

Police said that the security guard was patrolling the parking lot when he heard his personal vehicle being started. He then confronted the suspect, who was trying to steal his vehicle. An argument ensued and the suspect allegedly pulled out a weapon. That's when the security guard pulled out his gun and opened fire on the suspect, hitting him several times.

The suspect was rushed to the hospital. The security guard is being questioned by investigators.

No arrests have been made at this time. Police are still investigating.
