Last remaining Nix facility in San Antonio to close at end of month

SAN ANTONIO — The last remaining Nix health facility in San Antonio will close at the end of the month according to a statement.

Prospect Medical will close Nix Behavioral Health Center at 1975 Babcock Road in San Antonio, effective Nov. 30.The facility will stop admitting patients this week, while any patients remaining will be transferred to other health care facilities in the area. About 180 employees will be impacted by the facility closing.

"The company has made every effort over the last several months to find a buyer to continue operating the facility, but those efforts did not come to fruition," the company said.

Prospect Medical plans on hosting an on-site job fair with local healthcare providers and outplacement services provided to impacted employees to help ease the transition.

Nearly 600 people lost their jobs in September 2019 when the downtown Nix Medical center closed its doors.The 24-story building on Navarro Street - home to a 208-bed hospital - was built in 1930.
