SAN ANTONIO - It's not easy being a military spouse, but Aj Smit has proved to be one of the best, right here in San Antonio.
Smit's husband Jeremy Smit is stationed at Lackland Air Force Base. Monday, Aj was named the base's Military Spouse of the Year, by Armed Forces Insurance. With this, she's also been named one of the 18 finalists.
The group said Aj helped to build a Key Spouse program, to help other spouses in their squadron, as well as started her own business. At Lackland, Aj leads three Red Tents, which are sacred evenings where women gather to grow intentionally. In these, they share stories and use activities to explore what it means to be a fully embodied woman in the world.
Aj said her goal is to create resources and workshops to help spouses lean into vulnerability, boldness and embodiment.
The group said it has been honoring the nation's military spouses for 13 years. Aj is one top 18 and the overall winner the overall winner will be announced May 7 at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia.
