Abilene teenager dies after accidentally shooting himself in head while playing with gun

ABILENE, Texas — An Abilene teenager accidentally shot himself in the head while playing with a gun.

Jaeden Livingston, 14, died Saturday morning atCook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth.

The accidental shooting happened around 7:45 p.m. Friday at a home in the 800 block of Sunset Drive.

Police Chief Stan Standridge saidLivingston was at the home with two friends -- ages 15 and 16 .

When his friend's mom left the home, her son -- who knew they had a gun in the home -- got access to it.

Standridge said the boys passed the gun around.

Two sources told KTXS that Livingston put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger, thinking it was not loaded.

"My heart goes out to the parents," said Standridge. "I cannot imagine this day for them."

A GoFundMe page was created to help the family with medical bills and lodging for his mom in Fort Worth.

Standridge said the owner of the gun could be charged with"providing access to a firearm."

Livingston attended Madison Middle School. Abilene ISD said counselors will be available on Monday for any students or staff who need to talk about the tragedy.
