NIXON - Clearing up a rumor against his son, and holding the teacher accused of starting it accountable.

A local father is upset because he says a teacher at Nixon-Smiley High School told a classroom full of students his son is gay.

District leaders are aware of the allegations and say they wasted no time launching an investigation.

The student's father is afraid he won't be happy with the outcome, because of small town politics.

"She expects those kids to carry themselves a certain way," the father said. "Shouldn't she carry herself a certain way?"

Fighting for justice, this father whose identity we're protecting turned to News 4 San Antonio.

"Because I don't want it swept under the rug," he said.

The father says his teenage son is being bullied at Nixon-Smiley High School after a teacher allegedly told his girlfriend and a classroom full of students he's gay and is using her as a cover.

"When you say something like that in open class kids are going to talk and they're going to go with it," the father said.

He says he's filed a complaint with the district and has already had a meeting with the school principal and the accused teacher.

He says the teacher admitted she said it.

"She assumed it because of the way he looks," he said. Reporter Darian Trotter asked, "What do you mean? The way he looks, the way he dresses, the man said. "He's a well-mannered kid, takes care of himself."

But he says his son is not gay.

"Gay or straight is not the problem here," the father explained. "The problem is the teacher making a comment causing bullying in a school."

In a statement the district spokeswoman says, "We are aware of the allegations currently under investigation as the student's parent goes through a grievance process."

The father said, "She's apologized but I didn't want an apology. What's done is done so there's nothing she can take back."

He wants the teacher to lose her job.

We're told the next step for the father is a meeting with the district superintendent.

He also says he's in the process of being advised of his legal rights.
