SAN ANTONIO — If you're a mom, especially a new mom, finding time for fitness may be challenging. But there's a fitness class in San Antonio where moms workout with their babies. It's called FIT4MOM. Delaine Mathieu caught up with a group at Bullis County Park and immediately thought: this is definitely Good4You.
Let's face it, being a mom is great but sometimes, you need a break, which is what you're NOT going to get Stroller Strides. This is where moms come to work their "new mom" butts off. -- with your baby.
"The strollers and babies are involved in the whole thing," said Rebekah Bynum, who runs FIT4MOM-Stone Oak. "So, it's a music class for baby...while momma's gett'n her workout on." She says they focus on the needs of pre-postnatal women -- including exercises in the class they need to help recover.
"I thought we might be walking around with our strollers," said Carrie Simonds, who attends the class. "But it's so much more -- it was cardio and strength training -- which is really what I was looking for." There are different levels for everyone but, for the most part, moms are running, pulling, pushing, lunging -- and singing. It's a fun, full-body workout focused on strength training, cardio and -- maybe most important of all -- bonding with your baby.
"I love that she and my son can watch me live a healthy lifestyle," said Tracy El-Khoury, a mother of two. Sometimes, moms get the blues -- post-partum depression can be serious. Bynum says that's when a class like this -- can become a life-line.
"We're out here raising our kids together," Bynum explained. "We're helping each other out. We're a shoulder to lean on so I think that's the most important aspect, it's the village."
FIT4MOM offers several different classes at several different parks all over the city.
