Former State Senator Carlos Uresti files appeal, wants taxpayers to pay for legal team
SAN ANTONIO —
Former State Senator Carlos Uresti has filed his appeal with the federal court. We've confirmed he wants taxpayers to pay his legal fees.
According to court documents, Uresti claims he is "financially unable to obtain counsel." He wants his same legal team on his appeal but wants them appointed by the government since he can't afford to pay attorney's fees.
Last month, Uresti was convicted in a fraud scheme and sentenced to 12 years in prison and ordered to pay millions in restitution.
