ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas — An oil field site in Southeast Atascosa County erupted in flames Tuesday, but luckily no one was injured.
The Atascosa County Sheriff's Office said several tank batteries burst into flames at Whitewater Resources Salt Water Disposal Well in the 11000 block of Farm-to-Market 99 Tuesday afternoon. Traffic in the area is being diverted.
Scott Stable, general manager for Whitewater Resources, says there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. He says residents in the area are not at risk from anything from the fire and its smoke.
On its website, Whitewater Resources says it is a waste water disposal company for the Eagle Ford Shale play, "committed to providing high quality transportation and disposal service of produced fluids from energy companies participating in the discovery and production of oil and natural gas near Eagle Ford."
An online check with the Texas Rail Road Commission, which regulates the oil and gas industry in the state, shows no violations on file for Whitewater Resources or the lease site that is currently ablaze.
