Firefighters evacuate senior living apartment complex for seventh floor fire
SAN ANTONIO - Emergency crews evacuated a Southeast Side senior living center Friday night to contain a fire.
Authorities were called to the Fair Avenue Apartments just after 6 p.m. Friday for a fire originating on the seventh floor of the complex. The man in the room where the fire started was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Firefighters contained the fire, which did not spread to nearby rooms. At least 25 units were on scene to make sure all occupants were accounted for. Officials said there were no other injuries sustained in the fire.
Emergency crews are loading residents into a bus to transport while they wait for firefighters to clear the scene. Officials plan on allowing the residents back in the building later tonight.
The senior living community was built in 1971.
