HOUSTON- A female Houston Police Officer was reportedly assaulted by a man trying to shoplift at a Walmart, and police say her body cam captured the whole incident.
At around 1 a.m. a female Houston Police Officer stopped at a Walmart on 111 Yale to use the restroom.
As she was inside the bathroom, an employee ran to her and told her a man was shoplifting.
The officer approached the 27-year-old man and he allegedly assaulted the officer. The incident happened near the front door just inside the Walmart.
She was able to get her gun and shoot it one time, hitting the suspect in the leg.
"She tried to give the suspects commands once he left the store. He refused, he immediately turned up on her and attacked her. They went to the ground, she struggled with the suspect. At some point, she feared for her life, she shot the suspect once in the leg, said Executive Assistant Chief Troy Finner.
The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition from loss of blood. The officer was treated at the scene.
