San Antonio police discovered a body inside of an apartment complex on 9338 Perrin Beitel Road on Wednesday afternoon.

"We got a call from a maintenance worker there and we arrived on the scene and found a dead body in the apartment," said San Antonio police Chief William McManus.

Police have not identified the individual but say the discovery is being investigated as a homicide.

"Very suspicious circumstances that would lead us to believe it's a homicide," McManus said.

On the same day, a prayer vigil was scheduled for a missing San Antonio man but was cancelled after police made found the unidentified body. The father of 24-year-old Mario Martinez believes it could be his son.

Friends and family of Martinez gathered at the Astoria Apartment Homes where the body was discovered.

Martinez has been missing since December 6. We interviewed his family around that time. They said the circumstances around his disappearance were a mystery.

"We've searched everywhere that we possibly could," said Alaric Carter, a family member of Martinez.

His girlfriend says Martinez was a family man who loved his daughter.

"I'm living a nightmare right now because he's a huge part in this family," said Clayla McHenry, Martinez's girlfriend.

The family is asking for privacy and did not want to comment further.

A homicide investigation is underway.
