One person is dead and another injured in a double shooting in north Austin Friday afternoon.

Austin-Travis County EMS says that it happened at 6614 North Lamar Blvd. and at Lamar and Justin Lane.

Police confirmed a man in his early 20's died at the scene. The suspect and victims knew each other and there is no threat to the public, police say. Several people have been detained for questioning.

“I do know we had some people detained, that were some people of interest, but ultimately the homicide unit is going to have to either rule the suspects out or determine if they're involved," said APD Officer Marcus Davis.

EMS medics transported a man in his late 20's to the hospital with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.

Officers blocked off three different scenes along the stretch of North Lamar Blvd., between Justin Ln. and Brentwood St., with detectives at a liquor store, motel, and auto body shop.

However, police officials did not say where of the three scenes the shooting happened.

Neighbors living near the scenes say they are still in disbelief.

“I've never seen anything like this," said Patsy Trevino.“I just think it's sad. It's sad that people do this, this kind of thing."

Trevino says she normally goes on walks along this stretch of Lamar, and she feels lucky she decided against doing that Friday afternoon, because she believes she could have been caught up in the crossfire.

“Earlier I was thinking about going to the store, to the Walgreens. Something just told me not to go," Trevino said.

Detectives are still working to find out what led up to the shooting.
