SAN ANTONIO - A man survived a plunge off a highway overpass followed by a crash into a highway bridge pillar on the far North Side early Tuesday morning.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, a driver was heading west on Loop 1604 when he lost control, hit a guardrail and drove off the bridge overpass over Stone Oak Parkway shortly after 1 a.m.

Police say the car fell about 30 feet before slamming into the pillar. Firefighters had to cut through the wreckage to reach the driver. No one else was in the vehicle. The man was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
