SAN ANTONIO - The Bexar County Sheriff's Office charged a man suspected of driving the wrong way on Loop 1604 and slamming into a car, injuring several people.

The crash happened early Saturday morning in the northbound lanes of Loop 1604 near Emory Peak, between Potranco Road and Marbach Road.

According to court papers, Kevin Garcia, 25, was heading south in the northbound lanes when he collided with a car carrying five people. One of the victims suffered a spine injury, another had broken ribs and a bruised liver.

Three Bexar County firefighters were among those injured in the crash. They had all just left a badge pinning/Christmas ceremony last night, when their car was hit head-on.

The firefighters are from the District 7 Fire Rescue Team, which covers areas between Culebra Road and Bandera Road. The team has 43 members. They have only been with the department for about a month.

Deputies said Garcia was able to walk around following the accident. He was given a sobriety test and then taken to the Bexar County Jail. He is now charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of intoxication assault. His bond is set at $150,000.
