SAN ANTONIO - A drilling company hit a gas line in North Bexar County on Tuesday morning, prompting the closure of Bulverde Road between Evans Road and TPC Parkway, according to a county official.

A spokesperson for Bexar County said CPS Energy was at the site of the accident, but said the crews were having trouble finding the exact location of the leak. They were digging the sidewalk in order to reach the leak.

Kyle Coleman, coordinator for the Bexar County Office of Emergency Management, said the crews that caused the leak were in the area performing horizontal drilling. They drilled right into a 6-inch gas line.

Students who were at Johnson High School nearby were brought inside as a precaution and neighbors were told to shelter in place. There were no evacuations as a result.

Coleman added hazardous materials crews were driving around the area to monitor the air quality.

Repairs to the gas line could take an hour or two according to Coleman.
