Man struck and killed while trying to cross Interstate 35

UPDATE: The San Antonio Police Department identified the victim as 66-year-old Craig Steigleder. Police say there will be no charges filed against the driver of the truck that hit Steigleder. See previous story below.

A man was struck and killed while trying to cross the main lanes of Interstate 35 Tuesday morning.

Police say the victim was crossing the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 near George Beach around 9:45 a.m., when he was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado traveling in the middle lane. The driver of the Silverado was able to stop on the right shoulder after the accident.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene around 10:15 a.m. His name has not been released.

The northbound lanes of the highway remained closed for about an hour and a half while officers investigated the accident and crews cleared the scene. The lanes were reopened around 11:15 a.m.
