Missing 3-year-old child found safe in La Grange
SAN ANTONIO - A man suspected of stealing a car with a 3-year-old child inside was jailed on charges of kidnapping and possession of a stolen car after he and the child were located in Fayette County late Monday night.
Investigators said the horrifying ordeal began when Victor Miguel Torres, 31, stole a car on San Antonio's West Side with Josue Gonzalez, 3, sleeping inside.
His mother said she had driven to a store to pick up her boyfriend. She got out of the car, went to the store, then returned to the parking lot to find her car and Josue were gone.
At least 30 officers along with San Antonio's Eagle helicopter searched the area to locate the missing child, but it was a driver along I-10 in Fayette County who spotted the stolen car at a rest area. That person contacted authorities and they closed in on the car.
Josue was found unharmed and Torres was taken into custody at the scene, more than 100 miles from where the car was stolen.
The child was reunited with his mother at the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
"The child is in good spirits," police said. "And he misses his mom."
