Bexar County Sheriff terminates deputy after DWI arrest, pattern of illegal behavior
SAN ANTONIO —
An off-duty Bexar County Sheriff's Deputy was arrested Saturday for driving while intoxicated.
Officials said Diana Barrera, 51, with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office was arrested by police Saturday morning at 2 a.m for driving while intoxicated. The deputy assigned to the Detention Bureau was on unpaid administrative leave since Aug. 24 for an unrelated incident.
Following her arrest, Barrera was terminated from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office in accordance with Civil Service Rules for the current DWI arrest. She was a 12-year veteran with the department.
"I have made my stance clear on misconduct, that it will be dealt with as swiftly and severely as possible," said Sheriff Javier Salazar. "To maintain the integrity of this organization, I have personally terminated this employee for a pattern of illegal behavior."
BCSO Internal Affairs will conduct a separate but concurrent administrative investigation into the incident, pending further criminal investigation of the case by SAPD.
Barrera is being held in jail with a $1,000 bond.
