Bexar County looking at lawsuit against Volkswagen

By Yami Virgin

SAN ANTONIO - Bexar County Commissioners' Court took a step today towards suing Volkswagen.

Volkswagen admitted a few months ago that their engineers tampered with software so that their vehicles would pass emissions standards, when they really didn't.

Attorneys hired by the county are Maloney and Campolo, Pat Maloney, Carlos Uresti and Justin Hill.

Bob Hilliard of Corpus Christi is also part of the team. Attorney Tim Maloney tells Fox San Antonio that right now there are more than 2500 Volkswagen vehicles affected

in Bexar County by tampering of the system. Maloney says the fines could be between 50 dollars and 25,000 dollars per vehicle, per day, since 2009.

So what will the cost be of this legal team to taxpayers?

We are told that the law firms are fronting 100 percent of the litigation cost. That means that there is 0 percent financial risk to the county. If the county wins attorneys would get between 25 and 35 percent of the payout from Volkswagen.
