The sheriff's office said the incident happened when the deputy was off duty on February 26, 2017. Deputy Jose Raul Paez, 31, turned himself in Thursday afternoon following an investigation conducted by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Public Integrity Unit and a subsequent indictment. He was placed on administrative leave today.
Paez was arrested and charged with assault bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
Under Sheriff Javier Salazar, and up until April 12, 2018, 13 deputies have been arrested in total. Nine of the deputies were arrested by the sheriff's office and four were arrested by the San Antonio Police Department, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
